No plan. Just paint, and whatever tools were within reach.
Sponges. A palette knife. A fork borrowed from the kitchen. Each one pressed into the canvas differently, pulling a different texture from the same family of green — layered four times, divided by masking tape that left edges too clean to look accidental, even though everything else was.
The middle two layers hold something extra: iridescent pigment dusted across the surface, shifting between green, blue, and white as the light moves. The outer edges are finished with copper leaf — one strip on each side, same width, same weight — anchoring the whole thing without announcing itself.
When it was done, the colour reminded her of someone. A friend who shares the same obsession with green — not one green, but all of them. The kind that stops you mid-conversation, mid-step, mid-tour of someone's yard.
That afternoon in the yard is where Amalfi began. And somehow, it all comes back to green.
